Nick Carswell & The Elective Orchestra

Celebrating the longest night with some festive fun in Dolans and bringing a busy 2008 to an end Nick Carswell and the Elective Orchestra play Dolans Upstairs Venue on  Sunday December 21.

With a stellar cast of guests on the bill and the band putting out the call for song requests (via email to xmassongrequests@gmail.com), this is the best way to celebrate the longest night of the year in town.

Since playing their first headline show just 12 months ago in the same venue, the band have gone on to play support to the likes of Juno Falls, David Geraghty, and The Beautiful South’s Paul Heaton to name a few. Their song Oceanview featured in the top ten of the Vodafone Bright New Sounds competition earlier in the year, and they also featured in Ireland’s premier music showcase, The Hard Working Class Heroes festival in September.

The band have produced a limited edition EP titled A Reason To Give which is available exclusively at their gigs. Work is currently underway for a debut album to be released in 2009.

The Midwinter Xmas Xtravaganza will see key members of the orchestra welcome some local acts on stage. Included on the bill are members of The Brad Pitt Light Orchestra, who launch their first single, the aptly titled December, on downloadmusic.ie. Also playing will be local musician Peter Delaney who most recently opened for Oscar-winners The Swell Season in Daghdha Church. Finally, the award-winning Limerick band Blackwater Salmon featuring Noel Harris and Richie McCoy who again wowed audiences on a tour to Poland during the summer will also take to the stage.

With all of this great talent on offer, plus complimentary mulled wine and even a few mince pies, this is set to be a great night of music.
