Shannon-Heathrow service resumes

AER Lingus will resume its service between Shannon and Heathrow from today. The service was withdrawn in controversy in January of last year.
The decision led to uproar in the region in August 2007, when the airline announced it was dropping the service and moving the important Heathrow slots to Belfast.

A campaign was launched within the business and tourism sectors in an attempt to persuade the company to reverse its decision.
In late December 2008 Aer Lingus announced it would resume the service. The first Shannon to Heathrow flight will take off this evening and from tomorrow there will be two flights daily.
People in the region are being asked to support the reinstated service, which it is claimed is critical for business and tourism growth in the west and mid-west.
