Michelle Obama – First Lady and style icon
Since even before Barack Obama was officially announced as the 44th President of the United States, journalists, fashion followers and observers were already talking about Mrs Obama.

Michelle, the First Lady, has been compared to former First Lady and fashion icon Jackie Kennedy in the style stakes and has brought some much needed glamour to the White House and the international political scene. A meeting with France’s First Lady, former model Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, the much talked about and very stylish wife of the French premier, brought the two most stylish first ladies in the world together and I hate to admit it but America’s Michelle did outshine her European counterpart. Mrs Obama, unlike Mrs Sarkozy, happily wears high street pieces along with designer and is known for often wearing designs by young American designers. France’s Carla sticks to Dior and other high end European designers, and a demure palette with the odd jolt of regal purple, while Michelle embraces colour which looks great with her skintone. Throughout her husband’s campaign, she appreared in dresses instead of traditional suits and her token looks feature sheath dresses, cardigans, a belted waistline, kitten heels and pearls. Michelle brings her own edge to White House style and US Vogue thought so too in the March edition – only the second time an American First Lady has graced a Vogue cover.

What’s HOT
BEARDS

Have you noticed the rise in popularity of beards? The accessory of choice for heading into battle, Russell Crowe as Maximus in Gladiator showed us how well it can look, and Munster’s own Marcus Horan (pictured here!) doesn’t look half bad with it either. Hopefully it will serve him well for this weekend’s battle.

EMMA O’DRISCOLL

Emma O’Driscoll proved to viewers watching last Sunday’s Celebrity Bainesteoir that Limerick women, even the pretty petite blonde types, always take their sport seriously! Well done to Emma who showed such passion, and to St.Patrick’s, unfortunately beaten by a really strong Co.Down side that could well go on to win the competition outright.

What’s NOT
NO TICKET FOR THE MATCH

Croke Park has a capacity for 82,300 people. You’d think then that one out of those 82,300 seats could be mine?! At the time of writing this, there still were no (reasonably priced) tickets surfacing for this weekend’s semi-final. Let’s hope all the Leinster scare-mongering over red shirts in blue seats passes and we all get to cheer on our gladiators in this weekend’s battle royale!
