Autumn commitment for LMS

FOLLOWING on from its latest hit, Fiddler on the Roof, Limerick Musical Society will hold an open night on Tuesday, April 13, 8pm in Centrespace Studios, Alphonsus Street, Limerick. This open night will outline details for a new autumn production, welcoming new and existing members. LMS has won many awards in the annual Association of Irish Musical Society competition (AIMS).

Songwriters Guitar Workshop

LIMERICK SongWriters @ The Locke Bar are hosting a one-off night in the form of a Guitar Workshop with group founder Chris Wood. The workshop will take place on Thursday April 8 at 7pm upstairs at Limerick Songwriters usual venue, The Locke Bar on George’s Quay.

Aimed at guitarists with a basic knowledge of their instrument and with an interest in developing their music, the workshop will run for  90minutes and will focus on knowledge of the fretboard, chords variations and picking styles. There will also be plenty of time for questions and discussions.

Starting time 7pm on Thursday 8, and you are advised to book in advance by email limericksongwriters@gmail.com. By 9pm, Wood is main bill for SongWriter Sessions@The Locke Bar, these sessions taking place every 2nd, 3rd and 4th Thursday of the month. See http://www.youtube.com/limericksongwriters.

YES  grants for creativity

THE next Young Ensembles Scheme (YES) run by Arts Council has the closing date for entry  set for Friday 30 April, 5.30pm.

Applications are invited for activities beginning between July 1 and December 31, and to be completed by June 30 in 2011.

“The primary purpose of this award is to support  groups of young people between the ages of 12 and 23 to create ambitious and original work together in any art form (e.g. circus, dance, digital media, film, music, theatre, literature, visual arts, or any combination of the above)”.

Groups/ensembles must be made up of three or more members and the maximum award available is €10,000.
