McEnery appointed liquidator to ‘Limerick Independent’

THE High Court have today ordered the winding up of Limerick Independent Newspapers over substantial unpaid debts.

Limerick accountant Brian McEnery has been appointed as liquidator to the company.

Today’s judgement saw Mr Justice Roderick Murphy grant an order to wind up Limerick Independent Newspapers, this followed a petition being lodged by their former printers Webprint Concepts Ltd.

The High Court learned that Limerick Independent Newspapers, who owe Webprint over €90,000, had a history of owing substantial sums to their printer since October 2008.

Their petition was supported by the Revenue Commissioners who are owed over a quarter of a million euro in VAT, PAYE and PRSI.

Mr Justice Murphy, who made his ruling based on the “history of substantial sums owing”, said he was concerned that Limerick Independent Newspapers did not oppose the advertising of the winding up.

Judge Murphy said the case will go to the examiners list on June 14 with costs made in favour of the petitioner and the Revenue.
