Man charged in connection with St John’s Sq. shooting

DURING a special sitting of Limerick District Court on Saturday evening, a 28-year old man was charged in connection with the shooting of Daniel Phillips in the city last Monday.

The 20-year-old was critically injured when he received a gunshot wound to the head while waiting in a car at St John’s Square.  He is being treated at the University College Cork Hospital for his injuries where he remains in a critical condition.

At the court Shane Mason of Sean Heuston Place was charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition with intent to endanger life.  He was remanded in custody to appear before the court again next Thursday, where it is understood further charges may be brought against him.
