Derek Moloney headlines Ancór
LIMERICK chamber choir Ancór is host to a seasonal concert in St Mary’s Cathedral on Wednesday December 15 at 8pm. Music for choir, orchestra and soloists will include the Magnificat in B flat by Durante, Fantasia on Christmas Carols by Vaughan Williams and the Concerto No 8 in G minor known as the Christmas Concerto by  Corelli as well as carols.

This candlelit concert is directed by Cecilia Madden and features homegrown talent: soloists Sinead Fitzpatrick, soprano; Duncan Brickenden, countertenor;  Derek Moloney, tenor and Paul McGough, bass.  €15; mulled wine and mince pies at the interval.

Christmas Serenade, Georgian House
IS there a venue more lovely than Georgian House for a spot of serenading under misteltoe? Alto Sarah Ellen Murphy and tenor John Doyle are accompanied by Sarah’s sister Mary Kate on harp and Colette Davis on piano on Tuesday next, December 14 at 8pm. John Doyle anticipates a recital of Oh Holy Night, Holy City, My Dreams, operatic solos, and duets from Don Giovanni and more.
John’s new CD, Serenade, was recorded at Brenhaven Studios and has a love theme  – The Loveliest Night of the Year, Because I Love Thee and much more. This will be launched at Georgian House. €20 includes mulled wine, mince pies and a serious welcome.

5 choirs, 2 singers, 1 band
LIMERICK Musical Society  has pulled out all stops for its fifth Season’s Greetings concert, ideally placed in St. Mary’s Cathedral. This Thursday 9 at 8pm is the holy hour for the society’s  annual choral event.
This year artistic director Richie Ryan has invited the award-winning mezzo soprano, Sarah-Ellen Murphy, from Raheen and  tenor Nigel Dugdale to complement choirs assembled.
The singers join Limerick Musical Society’s male and female chorus, SEODA, Ladies Choir; Cantette, children’s choir; County Limerick Youth Choir, Limerick Gospel Choir and Boherbouy Brass and Reed Band under the baton of Derbhile de Paor.  Mrs Maire Keary Scanlon is overall musical director for this  choral night. 8pm, €20.

Art Auction on Thomas St
OCCUPY Space, the gallery run by volunteers at Thomas Street, is holding a fundraising Christmas Art Auction Saturday December 18. This auction is being held to help sustain Occupy Space’s existence – 15 exhibitions in a year.
Works for sale will be on display from Saturday December 11 in Occupy Space and the auction takes place on Saturday December 18 at  8pm. Refreshments will be provided and there will be raffle prizes to be won on the night.

Estonian choral conductor Tonu Kaljuste conducts the National Chamber Choir, Irish Chamber Orchestra, German mezzo Alexandra Peteramer, Norwegian baritone Frode Olsen, our own Regina Nathan and Limerick’s Paul McNamara (pictured), the tenor based in Berlin.
The occasion is Handel’s Messiah, taking place in UCH on Thursday December 16, 8pm and the RDS in Dublin on Saturday 18.
