Red light for removal of Dock Rd. roundabout

THE planned removal of the roundabout at Shannon Bridge, on the Dock Road, to be replaced by new traffic lights, has been deferred.
In an interview with the Limerick Post, city roads engineer, Pat Eyres, confirmed there had been a rethink on the proposal, first announced last summer.
The change was initially recommended for safety reasons, following demand for increased pedestrianisation in the area, with a number of accidents having been reported.

According to Mr Eyers, the lights at the entrance to Shelbourne Road, on Condell Road, have sorted out some problems with safety for pedestrians.
There had been a mixed response from the public and motorists to the proposal to remove the Dock Road roundabout.
He further told the Post that he was satisfied that the removal of the Abbey Bridge roundabout (see page 6) had proved a success with pedestrians and motorists.
“Three-way roundabouts rarely work, and there was a problem there for trucks”.
Meanwhile, senior engineer, Vincent Murray reports that maintenance and repair works have been completed at Westfields, North Circular Road, Lifford Avenue, Greenfields and Ballinacurra Gardens.
