County Limerick woman to face trial on child sexual exploitation

LIMERICK Circuit Court will hear the trail of a 41-year-old woman who will appear charged with five counts of sexually exploiting a child in County Limerick on dates in 2009 and 2010.
The woman, who can not be named for legal reasons and to protect the alleged injured party in the case, was served with the book of evidence in the matter at Limerick District Court by garda Keith Harmon attached to Bruff Garda Station.

The woman faces multiple counts of inducing or coercing a minor to engage in sexual activity contrary to Section 3 of the Child Trafficking and Pornography Act 1988 or the commission of such an offence.
Conviction following trial on indictment could lead to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 14 years according to the legislation within the act.

Garda Harmon served the book of evidence to the accused woman who is alleged to have breached the act on separate dates within the two year period.
Inspector Derek Smart told the court that following the service of the book of evidence in the case, the accused woman was to be sent forward for trial to the next sittings of Limerick Circuit Court according to the directions of the DPP.

Issuing the 14 day alibi warning, Judge O’Donnell sent the accused forward and remanded her on her own continuing bail.
