Footballers to face Offaly in Qualifiers

-

THE Limerick Senior footballers will face Offaly in round 2 of the All Ireland qualifiers. The time and date for the game is not known yet, as Limerick’s hurlers could affect same with a win over Wexford this weekend. Maurice Horan’s men will entertain the Faithful County on either Saturday 9 or Sunday July 10.

With Limerick still licking their wounds from a hammering at the hands of Kerry, a home draw has been welcomed in the camp. The two sides have already met this season. Limerick lost out on that occasion 2-10 to 1-12 victory as Offaly stole victory in the dying minutes of the game.
The Tom Cribbins coached Offaly side pulled off an upset in round one of the qualifiers. The Midlands team defeated a fancied Monaghan side. The result has undoubtedly boosted their confidence after their Leinster championship  exit to Wexford.
On the injury front, most of the panel have returned to training this week fit and well after a weather interrupted Senior Club Championship weekend.
Jim O’Donovan is a doubt as the tall midfielder has yet to return to action since he was substituted in the Kerry game.
With the chance of a dual weekend of action on the 9th and 10th, the footballers will have to plan without Lucey and O’Riordan for this game. Not ideal, but the panel will be chomping at the bit to avenge the performance against Kerry.
In 2002, Limerick defeated Offaly in the championship. Is a repeat on the cards?
