Limerick Ladies prepare for All Ireland Semi Final

LIMERICK Ladies Football Intermediate team,  have reached the TG4 All Ireland Intermediate Semi Final where they will play Westmeath in Birr this coming Saturday at 3.15pm, as they bid to return to Croke Park for the All Ireland Finals day for the third year in a row.

Limerick will face a stiff task as Westmeath have been in very impressive form in the round robin series of the championship. The winners of this semi final will take on Cavan who overcame Longford after extra time last week-end.

Tommy Stacks charges which contains 10 changes from the panel that won last year’s All Ireland Junior championship, will be relying on the experience of  winning the Junior championship in 2010. Having faced a difficult quarter final victory over Roscommon, the season so far will stand to them in next Saturday’s semi final.

The Limerick side is built on a blend of experience and youth and they can expect that their leading forward Dymphna O’Brien will be tightly marked which should open up scoring opportunities for the rest of the forwards.

Key players include the O’Brien sisters – Sandra, Maggie & Dymphna as well as Mungret’s Yvette Moynihan and the St Ailbe’s sisters Joanne & Emma McGuire. Tommy Stack will be hoping that some injury problems will be resolved in time for Saturday’s crunch game. Both team and management are well aware that this will be a tough assignment and that Limerick’s never say die attitude (which stood them well against Roscommon in the quarter final) will be well tested, if Limerick are to progress to the All Ireland Final in Croke Park on Sunday Sept 25th.

A large Limerick following is expected to make the trip to Birr to support the Limerick girls and the game is live on TG4.
