Limerick Senior Football Championship Previews

Football Cup 1THE Irish Wire Products Senior Football championship returns to the pitch this weekend with three games down for decision, due to the involvement of the Limerick senior hurlers in the All Ireland semi finals.

SFC Group 1
Friday August 9, Rathkeale, 7pm
Adare v Newcastlewest
Adare have not been the side thus far that many expected to see and have failed to set this championship alight.
They now find themselves in quite a precarious position and face elimination at quite an early stage. Adare are not aided by this weeks’s fixture against arguably the favourites for the county title, Newcastlewest.
However the men from the West proved they are not invincible, suffering defeat in the last round. NCW should have enough quality within their squad to ensure that there are no more setbacks.
Prediction: Newcastlewest

Saturday August 10, Ballybrown, 7pm
St Kierans vs Pallasgreen
Two sides showing very different form, while Kierans have thrived and have become dark horses, Pallas have plummeted. However Pallasgreen have shown how dogged they can be. This could be a long evening for Pallas unless they make a bright start. Expect Kierans to pick up where they left off against Newcastlewest.
Prediction: St Kierans

SFC Group 2
Friday Augut 9, NCW, 7pm
Mountcollins v Ballysteen
Mountcollins are quickly losing ground in this group and will need a good result in this fixture to get out of the rot they find themselves in.
They face a mid table Ballysteen who are another side who are proving they are well able to ply their trade with the big boys. With this in mind Ballysteen know they are getting closer to securing a place in the latter stages and this factor should drive them to victory.
Prediction: Ballysteen

Finally, in other football news, Tom McGlinchey, Ned English and Barry Donnelly have been nominated for the role of Limerick Senior Football manager, taking over from Maurice Horan who stepped down last month.
The selection sub-committee of Sean McAuliffe, John Galvin and Jim Barry will now interview all three candidates, as well as possessing a remit to source their own candidate should they see fit.
The three on the shortlist have impressive CVs in their own right.
McGlinchey led Tipperary to the 2002 Munster final and won the Limerick SFC with Ballylanders in 2007, while Ned English trained Drom-Broadford to the 2002 Limerick and Munster SFC title, as Barry Donnelly previously served as coach of Hospital-Herbertstown.
