A:Judy O'ConnorITโ€™s time to brighten the spirits having pulled away from stormy mid-Winter. Soothe the soul, ear and palate with a seat at Dolanโ€™s Supper Club, taking place Upstairs this Saturday 8 with the incorrigible Judy Oโ€™Connor.

During and after the serving of two delicious courses from the menu, candlelit tables are entertained by this gifted jazz and cabaret singer/ actress. Accompanied by Aidan on piano and a guest star or too to emerge from her Spotlight Stage School, what is not to love?

The Two Tchaikovskys

A: Katherine HunkaIRISH Chamber Orchestra joins with director Patrick Mason to present an original piece of theatre โ€˜My Brother Peterโ€™, based on the life and works of Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky.ย ย  This original production, written by Mason, is a window to the composer as seen through the eyes of his brother. Bosco Hogan is the narrator, Modest Tchaikovsky who was Peterโ€™s biographer and created the House-Museum Kiln for the controversial composerโ€™s legacy.

At Lime Tree Theatre, Saturday February 15, 8pm. Katherine Hunka is musical director and guest Rudi de Groote is cellist for Tchaikovskyโ€™s selected music.

DRUID is back at Lime Tree Theatre until February 8, with Garry Hynesโ€™ ย predictably original take on a classic. Dion Boucicaultโ€™s โ€˜The Colleen Bawnโ€™ is given upbeat treatment, live music, a spare set and is played for laughs amid the dark.

At Lime Tree Theatre, MIC, it stars the companyโ€™s own Marie Mullen, Marty Rea; also Aisling Oโ€™Sullivan, Rory Nolan, Aaron Monaghan and from London, has brought in Irish actress Kelly McAuley in the title role. Design is by Francis Oโ€™Connor, music by Elliot Davis and interestingly, โ€œmovement by Muirne Bloomer and David Bolgerโ€.

Essence of Love

IF bothered by the shenanigans surrounding Valentineโ€™s Day commerce, take consolation at a free event in Daghda Church that Friday, 7.30-9.30pm.

According to its creator, Angie Smalis and Patterns Collective, audiences are invited to sit back and relax in this romantic converted church for โ€œan evening of dance designed to be a social event. โ€˜The essence of loveโ€™ will be performances by Patternsโ€™ artistsย accompanied by live music.

 

Film scripts

A RELIABLE ย provider of writing programmes, Limerick Writers Centre at Barrington Street is hosting Eleanor McSherryโ€™s โ€˜short film scriptwritingโ€™ course. It will take place six weeks, from Saturday February 15.

McSherry, who facilitates the course, has been shortlisted by Filmbase and the Galway Filmcentre, also ย for the Waterford Film Festivalโ€™s short film script award 2012.

She is a film producer with Sรญdheย Film which took โ€˜Vannerโ€™ to Chicago, Galway, Fingal and Dingle film festivals last year, and committee member for Behind the Scenes Film Network and Richard Harris International Film Festival.

Previous success stories arising out of Barrington Street include Meave McGrath (โ€˜Vannerโ€™), Andrew Oโ€™Gorman and Brian Comerford.
