BECAUSE of a big increase in the local population, the need for a community centre in Corbally is now more prevalent than ever.

That’s the view of Fianna Fáil local election candidate Christy McInerney who says it’s critical that City Council deliver an epicentre for the citizens of Corbally to use as a social hub.

He claims that Corbally has been neglected when it comes to sports and community facilities.

A petition titled ‘Corbally Needs a Community Centre’ has also been set up on facebook.

“Generations of local children have grown up without any social outlet. Government funding has been used to develop amenities in other parts of Limerick. It is now time for City Council to deliver for the people of Corbally,” Mr McInerney said.

He added that it was imperative that the Council assessed the current properties available in Corbally and acquire a suitable building for the community.

“I would envisage that the new community centre would house a youth cafe as this would give local teenagers an alternative to the street corner. The centre would be run by a local community group which would have representatives from all estates in Corbally,” Mr McInerney suggested.
