Limerick people Keane to support guide dogs

guide dogsTHE people of Limerick will get the opportunity to follow Roy Keane’s lead and support Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind this week.

As part of the charity’s week-long Shades campaign, Irish Guide Dogs will have a presence at all Tesco stores in Limerick on Thursday May 1, in addition to street collections in Limerick city centre and Newcastlewest on Friday 2.

Sinead O’Keeffe, Commercial Manager with Irish Guide Dogs, said: “We aim to raise €270,000 this year in order to sustain its services and meet the high demand for our dogs. We will be in Tesco’s this Thursday and on street collections with some dogs so come along and say hello and show your support!”

Eighty per cent of the charity’s funding comes from public donations and Keane is calling on Limerick people to recognise the needs of those who suffer from blindness.

He said: “We all take for granted our freedom of movement and being able to drive and do what we want, but many people who are blind are not so lucky and the dogs and training Irish Guide Dogs provide really help give them back a good level of independence.”
