A YOUNG local election candidate has decided to kill two birds with the one stone while putting up posters in his City East ward.

With every poster the Sinn Féin hopeful Séighin Ó Ceallaigh puts up he is also busy removing old cable ties left behind by politicians after previous elections. He claims he is coming across poles with as many as five cable ties left on them, which he has described as an “unpleasant sight”.

“It’s not fair to the local community. It is a much more pleasant sight seeing the poles cleaned up and I hope they are kept clean in future elections”.

The University of Limerick student went on to encourage other politicians to have the decency not to litter, whether they are elected or not.

Praising his party colleague’s interest in the community, Sinn Féin city councillor Maurice Quinlivan said: “It’s great to see younger politicians like Séighin take a real interest in the local community, which we believes is very important in building a better Ireland”.
