THE ninth edition of Welcome to the Neighbourhood, an annual programme of invited international and Irish artists resident at and working out of public spaces throughout Askeaton, continues until Saturday July 12.

It’s driven by the concept that contemporary art can be used as a hub for local society, being exploratory, celebratory and also a form of critique where artists have a fundamental role.

“This year’s [artists] hail from London, Dublin, Helsinki, Mayo and Mexico, each making new projects around the town,” reports the annual curator, Michele Horrigan. “Several public events, screenings and workshops will occur in conjunction with the artists’ stay, please see www.askeatonarts.com for more details.

On Saturday 12, artists’ projects will be presented throughout the town.”

There is an open invitation to join the July 12 reception for the artists at Askeaton Tourist Office from 3pm and 6pm, and curatorial tour of works.

As ever the Hellfire Club Party is the closing highpoint to this international contemporary arts fest, from 9pm.
