FLAGGED previously in Limerick Post, Irish Chamber Orchestra looks to Europe and the east for summer night music to Ballingarry and to Kilkee this month.

ICO Leader Katherine Hunka directs the Irish Chamber Orchestra from ‘Vienna to the Volga’, title of this itinerary for Ballingarry’s Church of the Immaculate Conception on Friday July 25 and on Saturday 26, Cultúrlann in Kilkee, Clare.

“This delightful programme features Gidon Kremer’s arrangement of Alfred Schnittke’s Polka which is a little racy, scary but quite funny,” reports Charlotte Eglinton, marketing manager for the orchestra. “His unabashedly comical ‘Moz-Art à la Haydn’ grew from Schnittke’s extraordinary ability to fragment and reassemble diverse music in new and unexpected ways.

“Two colliding worlds, from the clarity of Mozart to the chaos of Schnittke, make for one great parody”.

On then to Haydn’s cello duet demonstrating virtuosity and spirit from the soloists. “Mozart’s Divertimento in B is full of sparking and dramatic themes, a shining example of the young composer’s most enchanting string music. Tchaikovsky romantic and much loved Serenade was written ‘from the heart’ as an homage to Mozart”.
