CURATOR of Education and Outreach at Hunt Museum, Dominique Bouchard, addressed an international conference in Los Angeles last week on the ‘Inclusive Museum: Shared Visions and Shared Histories.’ Taking place at the celebrated Autrey National Centre LA, the conference looked at museums and galleries as agents of change and inclusivity in diverse communities.
The Hunt Museum’s successful Communities of Culture project, supported by Limerick Regeneration and the Friends of the Hunt Museum, is the focus of Dr Bouchard’s presentation. The contentious project to renew housing and living in city estates, was compared and contrasted with earlier projects across community divides during her time in Northern Ireland before Dr Bouchard came to Limerick.
The Communities of Culture Project is a project across the four regeneration areas in the city. Co-ordinated by Sorcha O’Brien, it has been engaging successfully with community base groups and projects on aspects of their heritage and culture, reports Dr Hugh Maguire, director of the Hunt.
