PROUD Limerick native and Cranberries frontwoman Dolores O’Riordan has joined Treaty City broadcaster Terry Wogan in writing a limerick about her home city.

The poems are going to be part of a virtual walking trail throughout Limerick city.

The competition was launched as part of Limerick City of Culture 2014 in early August and has already witnessed an influx of poems and prose from all over the world.

The walking tour was devised by a small group of innovators from a Limerick company called BundlBee and is the very first Virtual QR Code Walking Heritage Tour in Ireland and the first of its kind in the world.

Dolores, who now resides in Canada, has never forgotten her roots and says the project is “a really cool idea, great for Limerick”.

There are 12 points of historical interest on the walking trail, both the well known and some lesser-known landmarks.

At each location a plaque will appear and will feature a QR Code with the winning limericks about the location.

Once the QR Code is scanned, the participant will be brought to a mobile optimised web page that will offer the historical information.

Locations on the tour include Barrington’s Hospital, King John’s Castle, People’s Park, the Treaty Stone and the Hunt Museum.

The competition runs until August 25 and the tour will be fully operational by August 28; to submit entries, log on to www.limerickslimericks.com.
