LIMERICK School of Art & Design (LSAD) students will have their dress designs inspired by gas masks, 18th century soldier’s helmets, rifles and a World War I parachute on display at the National Museum at Collins Barracks.

The 12 garments, inspired by the museum’s award-winning exhibition ‘Soldiers & Chiefs’ were designed and made by a group of creative second year students of the BA (Hons) in Fashion Design at LSAD.

Michelle Molloy, Fashion Design Lecturer at LSAD, said:“The Fashion Department at LSAD are delighted with this partnership with the National Museum. Our students had the opportunity to research and document the Soldiers and Chiefs exhibition firsthand, forming a valuable understanding of the importance of primary research within their work.

“This hands-on approach has greatly enhanced their understanding of historical uniform and artefacts which is evident in the standard of finish and detail in the final garments.”
