Pipe-bomb discovered on car in county Limerick

GARDAI in Newcastle West, assisted by detectives in Henry Street and the serious crime unit, are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a pipe-bomb at a housing estate in the county Limerick town this Wednesday evening.

The device, which its viability is as of yet unknown, was found near a car in the populated estate on the outskirts of the town.

Experts from the bomb disposal unit were called in to the scene and arrived from Cork a short time later.

The device was secured and the area cordoned off as investigators launched the operation to uncover its origin, the culprits and the intended target if any.

Gardai at Newcastle West are leading the investigation and are appealing for the assistance of the public who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously.
