Crecora Glantine win junior camogie crown

crecora_camogieCrecora Glantine won the Junior Championship at the third time of asking with a comprehensive 3-7 to 0-2 win over Knockaderry in Ballyagran on Sunday. They were well worth their win with an impressive display despite it taking 20 minutes for them to open a significant lead.
The opening half, in front of a sizeable crowd, was a tightly contested game with both sides exchanging frees until on the 20 minute mark full-forward Anna Kennedy pounced on a rebound to score a goal after an excellent save by Knockaderry keeper Orla Condon. 5 minutes later Anna scored again after another blocked shot to leave the score at half-time Crecora Glantine 2-2 Knockaderry 0-2.
Crecora Glantine dominated the second half and began to capitalise on their lead with Michelle Barrett accurate from placed ball and Anna Kennedy and Mairéad O’Connell scoring from play to open a 2-6 to 0-2 lead. Aoife Coughlan and Shannyn Sheehan were impressive in defence as Knockaderry looked to fight back and Una O’Connor in a player-of-the-match performance contained the impact of Knockaderry’s Deborah Murphy. Indeed it’s a testament to the excellence of the Crecora Glantine defence that Knockaderry did not score from play in the match.
Trish Condon put the game beyond doubt with a goal on 17 minutes as Crecora Glantine headed for the final whistle. Co Board Chairperson Seán Condon presented captain Mairéad O’Connell with the trophy to the delight of the assembled fans.
