Lions Club and Tesco Christmas Food Appeal comes to Limerick

61 NO FEE Tesco Food AppealTHE Lions Clubs International and Tesco Christmas Food Appeal will take place in all Tesco stores in Limerick on December 5 and 6. The appeal seeks to support as many families as possible in the run-up to Christmas and will run in all 147 Tesco stores nationwide.

Lions Club and Tesco are appealing to the Irish public to help people in need this Christmas by making a donation in their local Tesco store between 11am and 7pm on both food collection days.

During the appeal, customers visiting their local Limerick store will be handed a ‘shopping list’ by Lions Club and Tesco volunteers that suggests non-perishable food items including tea bags, breakfast cereals and Christmas cake. They can then choose to add an item to their shopping basket and donate it in the branded food collection trolley when leaving the store.

All food collected will then be sorted by Lions Club and Tesco volunteers who will create festive food hampers to be distributed by local charity partners to those in need across County Limerick.

Lions Food Appeal co-ordinator Joe Smith commented: “We have been running a national Food Appeal since the 1980’s, and the need for support in our localities is now greater than ever. Our partnership with Tesco has been most welcome and has enabled us to fulfil our commitment to those in need.”

Christine Heffernan, Corporate Affairs Director with Tesco Ireland, added: “Last year our customers and colleagues were overwhelming in their generosity and donated €138,000 worth of food which was given to families across the country.

“For many families the food appeal is the difference between having a comfortable Christmas and going without and so we’re really proud to be able to partner with the Lions Club on such an important initiative.”

To support the Christmas Food Appeal and help families through the festive period, visit your local Tesco store in Limerick on Friday December 5 or Saturday December 6 between 11am and 7pm and make a donation.
