004A PUBLIC meeting for the construction of a slipway at Ringmoylan Pier will take place in Pallaskenry Community  Centre this Thursday, December 4 at 8pm.

The meeting has been called by local Independent councillor Emmett O’Brien, who said that lives are being put at risk in the absence of a slipway. The lack of such a basic facility means that emergency rescue craft cannot launch or berth there.

“The need for proper facilities and supports for communities that live by the coastline, estuary and rivers is ever present with recent tragedies on the Shannon Estuary. I shudder to think what would have happened if a local rescue had to be launched without proper facilities. It is past time the council and the Government support these communities.

“It is high time that Limerick City and County Council supports the courageous volunteer rescue crews in the area by providing at the very least adequate facilities. This is not a costly project when you consider its importance to people’s safety,” he concluded.
