FINE Gael councillor Stephen Keary has called for roadworks to be carried out in Pallaskenry ahead of President Michael D Higgins’ visit to the village on February 24.

President Higgins will visit Pallaskenry for the unveiling of a plaque on a stretch of road between the village and the Salesian College, which is to be named the Saint Don Bosco Road. Cllr Keary pointed out at this month’s Adare-Rathkeale municipal meeting that 6,000 had been allocated some time ago for road repairs in Pallaskenry and urged the Council to carry out the works ahead of President Higgins’ visit.

“It should have been done well before now,” said Cllr Keary

Last month councillors Kevin Sheahan (FF) and Emmett O’Brien (Ind) proposed to have the stretch of road between Pallaskenry village and the Salesian College called the Saint Don Bosco Road. The two Adare-Rathkeale representatives, both past pupils of the Salesian College, pointed out that 2015 is the 200th anniversary of the birth of the Italian Saint.
