Cycling – Limerick Cycling Club continue an active Spring Campaign

Munster Academy Mark O'Callaghan Henry CookeAfter a highly successful Rás Luimní and a plethora of strong racing results nationwide,  Limerick CC keep their wheels turning this spring and into summer with a host of activities for all ages and interests.

The Youth Cycling Academy recommences at Limerick Racecourse on Wednesday’s at 6.30pm, the first session is on 22nd of April. Ages of 7 – 15 are catered for and this is especially of interest to those who wish to progress to under age road racing.  This is a great opportunity for kids to gain confidence on the bike and develop their control and skills. We are delighted that Cycling Ireland approved coach Vincent Gleeson is once again at the helm.

The Limerick Classic Tour returns this May after a one year absence from the sportive calendar. We’re back to the familiar surroundings of The Millennium Centre in Caherconlish for a 120km ride that will take place at two speeds to suit both leisurely and pacier participants.  As per previous years the route is Caherconlish – Hospital – Galbally – Glen of Aherlow – Tipperary – Hollyford – Kilcommon – Rearcross – Pallasgreen – Caherconlish. Light Refreshments will be served at a stopping point and a full spread will be available afterwards at The Millennium Centre.

The club wishes to congratulate each of Henry Cooke and Mark O’Callaghan on their representation on Team Munster at the Recent 4 day Kerry Group Rás Mumhan. Mark O’Callaghan is ever present on the results sheet these days and was an obvious selection for the Munster U23 Academy. Henry Cooke helped himself to a gallant victory in Rás Mhaigh Eo in early March and both justified their selection by sterling performances in Kerry.  This race attracts a vast array of quality international competition and the lads did themselves and Limerick proud often placing the highest A3 rider on each day, culminating with O’Callaghan finishing 10th and Cooke finishing 18th overall and wearing the leaders Blue Jersey in the A2/3 category on Day 2.
