LIMERICK City will see an explosion of hip-hop in the coming weeks. A new type of festival happening in June will bring together like minded individuals from all disciplines of hip-hop.
‘Bringing it Back’ will renew the vibe of old-skool hip-hop, giving it a new and modern twist. The festival is the brainchild of dance legend Barry ‘Bazzy B’ Burke (co-founder of Make a Move, Limerockers Crew), Mexy (musician, composer of ‘The Táin’), Dylan Isaiah (filmmaker, Hip-Hop promoter in the UK), and Joe Kennedy (Limerick based graffiti artist).
Bringing it Back, on June 13, kicks off with a free outdoor jam on Bedford Row between 11am-5pm. Expect to see everything from break dancing, rapping, beatboxing, with DJs and live graffiti. Everybody is welcome to come along and enjoy the fun.
The next highlight of the day will see Ireland’s second ever official beatbox battle bringing beats, booms and bass to Dolan’s Warehouse to become the undisputed Irish Beatbox Champion. Judged by international beatbox talents Hobbit (UK), Ball-Zee (UK) and Beatfox (UK).
Later that night guest DJ Jon1st, Class A’z, Icarus Rising and Limerick’s own ‘Limerockers Crew’ led by Bazzy B will perform.
‘Bringing it Back’ happens on Bedford Row and Dolan’s on Saturday June 13. Entering The Beatbox Championships is open to all Irish citizens. Entries must be made by June 6 on the ‘The Second Irish Beatbox Championships’ facebook Page. Hopefuls need to upload a two minute video of yourself beatboxing and share it on this page.
