LOCAL organisations in County Limerick are in dire need of LEADER funding assistance.

That’s the view of independent councillor Emmett O’Brien who welcomed the announcement that a unified approach is being adopted in Limerick to maximise the return from €9.276m LEADER funding over the next five years.

The Adare-Rathkeale representative says he’s been inundated with requests from voluntary and community organisations wondering when, where and how they can apply for funding for local projects.

The Limerick Local Community Development Committee (LCDC) will oversee the financial assistance to be given to projects that qualify for the funding. The LCDC comprises of 17 members drawn from both the statutory and non-statutory socio-economic partners across Limerick.

Cllr O’Brien says it is important that the two local development companies, West Limerick Resources and Ballyhoura Development Ltd, are working with the LCDC.

“There is now a vast array of pressing local projects, that need to apply for funding in the Adare-Rathkeale area after nearly an 18 month hiatus,” he said.

Work will now commence on a Limerick Rural Development Strategy over the coming months.
