Couple jump to safety from burning house

A LIMERICK couple had to jump for their lives to safety from the upstairs window of a burning house in the early hours of Friday morning last after a blaze took hold at a house in Carew Park around 6am.

Emergency services were alerted to a fire that started at the front door of the house on Lawnway, Carew Park.

The couple, a man and a woman both understood to be aged in their 40s were inside the house at the time, but managed to escape from the upstairs window although having suffered smoke inhalation

Both were taken to the University Hospital Limerick, for further treatment. Their injuries were not believed to be life threatening.

Three tenders from Limerick City Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene where firefighters overcame the blaze after some 40 minutes.

Gardaí confirmed that they carried out a forensic and technical examination of the scene and are conducting an investigation into the possibility that the fire was started deliberately.

CCTV footage from the area is being examined and anyone with information is asked to contact Roxboro Road Garda Station on 061-214340.
