SUBWAY stores throughout Ireland will be taking to the court as they announced that they will become title sponsors of the SUBWAY® All Ireland Schools Cup. In a partnership with Basketball Ireland, SUBWAY® stores will sponsor the schools tournament for a three year period.

The brand, which now has 237 stores throughout Ireland, will engage with franchisees all over the country and encourage them to support their local school when the season re-commences later this summer. The sponsorship will be supported with a full activation plan which will include Low Fat Sub sampling, sports equipment for schools, training sessions with International players and nutritional advice from professional dieticians.

Speaking about the sponsorship, Neil Black, SUBWAY® Ireland Development Agent said, “Our stores are all locally owned and operated by individual franchisees who work in the heart of local communities. We wanted to find a way that would support young athletes in their pursuit of excellence as they represent their schools and their communities. We believe this partnership with Basketball Ireland allows us to develop the sport and the tournament and help to grow and nurture talent within the towns all over Ireland that our stores operate”.

Discussing the partnership, Bernard O’Byrne, Basketball Ireland CEO said, “Basketball Ireland is delighted to have SUBWAY® stores  as the title sponsor of the SUBWAY® All-Ireland Schools’ Cup, which has established itself as one of the most popular fixtures on the schools’ sports calendar. Having a global brand like SUBWAY® committing to Basketball Ireland is a positive indication of the strength of our sponsorship offering.”

Basketball Ireland has over 28,000 school players from over 520 schools registered with the organisation. Active in 32 counties, the sport is Ireland’s number one indoor sport. The SUBWAY® brand also works with sports stars throughout the world including Tommy Bowe, Pelé, swimmer Michael Phelps, and boxer Anthony Ogogo to encourage people to lead a healthier, more active lifestyle.
