Poems, ceolteoirí and WW1 at Hunt Museum

IT’S a busy season at Hunt Museum, platforming poetry, music and visual arts shows and talks for July. In partnership with Limerick Writers Centre, Lunch Time Poetry will take place for an hour from 1pm on Thursday July 9, Thursday 16, Thursday 23 and Thursday 30.

Some eight poets will give a reading in the Captain’s Room, two writers per event, and their work will be preceded by music performed by local musicians.

Yvonne Ahern and Mike Roycroft open this series on Thursday 9 at 1pm.

Seisiún with Comhaltas Ceolteoirí has returned for 2015, putting on evenings of song, dance and storytelling through the talents of Siamsaíocht Ghaelach Náisiúnta and Ceol na nGael. Held over seven consecutive weeks on Thursday nights from 7.30pm to 10pm, tickets are just €10 at the door for the best of traditional Irish entertainment.

Note also that Fr Franis Browne’s exhibition of ‘Photographs from the Front’ will be opened on Thursday 9 by WW1 authority, journalist Kevin Myers at 6pm. A suite of 38 prints will show and this Cork Jesuit’s work will be expanded on at 1pm on Friday July 10 at 69 O’Connell Street, part of Myers’ talk on ‘Fr Browne, Limerick and Ireland’s Great War’. €5.
