In a statement which read “Limerick FC can confirm that midfielder Jason Hughes has left the club. We thank Jason and wish him well.” the club announced on facebook, that the 24 year old would leave the Blues. There was no indication this week if the exit was a mutual agreement or not.
Limerick entertain Sligo Rovers at 6.30pm in the knowledge that a loss to the second from bottom side, with 11 games to go, would all but send them down to the First Division for next season.
Martin Russell’s side, who lost out 4-1 to Shamrock Rovers last Sunday in Tallaght, are 10 points adrift of Sligo Rovers and Derry City who themselves are six shy of Drogheda.
Limerick fans will be welcoming a familiar face back to Shannonside as Patrick Nzuzi will line out for Sligo who themselves are in dire need of the three points.
This Saturday’s game is the first of two home games for Limerick with Bohemians coming to town on Saturday August 8, also at 6.30pm.
On a Junior front, the FAI High Performance Director Ruud Dokter and Republic of Ireland assistant manager Roy Keane this week officially launched the inaugural SSE Airtricity National U17 League at FAI headquarters in Abbotstown.
Ruud Dokter said: “The creation of the SSE Airtricity National U17 League is a very important development for Irish Football. It provides young players in Ireland with a regular challenging environment designed to produce high quality players to progress for the future.
The League kicks off on the weekend beginning August 9. The first season will be truncated, and will end in December in line with the SSE Airtricity U19 League. The 2016 season will kick-off in alignment with the SSE Airtricity Premier and First Division seasons.  Limerick FC are in group 1 of the new competition alongside Cabinteely, Cobh Ramblers, Cork City, Waterford United, UCD, Wexford Youths and  Bray Wanderers.
