Mounting numbers at ED

Regionalhospital-300x181THERE were 43 people waiting for admission on trolleys and wards at the University Hospital Limerick on Wednesday of this week, the highest number in the country, including Dublin. 15 were waiting for a bed in wards and 28 on trolleys in the hospital’s emergency department. This is the third week running that the Limerick hospital has been at the forefront of the trolley crisis, having the highest numbers in the country twice and the highest outside Dublin once. Hospital management said that there are unusually high attendances at the emergency department in recent weeks. They are trying to expedite admissions by moving suitable patients to other hospitals.
