Four judges  – artistic curator Thomas Delohery, actor/ director Jared Harris, designer Natalie B Coleman, and friend of the late Richard Harris, Billy O’Reilly – have shortlisted 16 artists in this visual art competition that honours the late Oscar nominee as subject.

Each is a candidate to win the Richard Harris International Film Festival Portrait Competition. The agreed winner will be announced at October holiday film festival, taking place Thursday 22 to Sunday 27.

There’s a full programme of screenings, talks, sport tie-ins, film workshops and who’s in the director’s chair, to witness online at richardharrisfilmfestival.com.

An additional evening of activity is now certain with events opening on Thursday 22 with the 5pm unveiling of a plaque to Harris at Charlie St George’s pub on Parnell Street. Jared will read some of his father’s unpublished poetry there, one of Richard’s loved watering holes.

The organising corps is Limerick Writers’ Centre and this plaque is the latest instalment in the creation of a Limerick Literary Trail.
