GAA – Na Piarsaigh chase third crown

Screen shot 2015-11-19 at 10.12.58LIMERICK SENIOR hurling champions Na Piarsaigh have qualified for their third Munster club hurling final in five years after a 2-15 to 0-17 win over Thurles Sarsfields at the Gaelic Grounds last weekend. Ballygunner of Waterford will provide the opposition in Thurles at 2pm, with the game being broadcast live on Limerick’s Live95fm.
The light blues are undefeated in the Munster Club championship, having won the title both times they have entered the championship (2011 and 2013).
Na Piarsaigh are looking to make it three in a row for Limerick clubs, building on the back of Kilmallock’s win last season.
In what was another outstanding performance from Shane O’Neill’s men, Na Piarsaigh came from behind once more to defeat the Tipperary champions. Peter Casey’s wonder goal, eight minutes into the second half, gave his side the lead for the first time since the second minute and a second net rattler from David Dempsey five minutes from time sealed their progression to the final.
The Limerick champions are favourites for this weekend’s clash with the bookies. Na Piarsaigh are priced at 2/5 even though Ballygunner defeated much fancied Glen Rovers 0-19 to 1-9 in the semi final.
The game this weekend, weather permitting, could be a real close affair. Na Piarsaigh, having played last weekend, should be battle hardened for the clash which could come down to whom ever wins the free taking clash. Ballygunner and Waterford star Brian O’Sullivan will be looking to out score Limerick’s own Shane Dowling from placed balls.
In other GAA news, the fixtures for the 2016 Allianz sponsored Hurling and Football leagues have been announced. (See right) Limerick will feature in a double header on March 12 in the Gaelic Grounds.
