Limerick parking free from three

-

SHOPPERS in Limerick city and the county towns of Kilmallock, Newcastle West and Abbeyfeale will be able to park for free from 3pm over the Christmas period thanks to a council initiative announced this week.

Limerick City and County Council revealed that all on-street parking in these areas will be free from 3pm from Thursday, December 3 to Thursday, December 24.

‘Free From 3’ is the latest parking initiative introduced by the council following the launch of its branded mobile parking payments service, Limerick e-Parking (www.limerickparking.ie).

Elsewhere, local authority chief executive Conn Murray told councillors this week that parking meters could be installed on the city’s streets over the coming year.

Income from parking charges and fines is estimated at €2.17 million for 2016, up from €1.89 million in 2015.

Mr Murray says the local authority is to avail of a loan of €149,000 to fund the installation of the new meters, which he believes would be more convenient for motorists than the existing discs.
