WITH just a handful of counts likely to be left in both of the Limerick constituencies, the race for the Dail is hotting up as outgoing TD Jan O’Sullivan trails  Sinn Fein’s Maurice Quinlivan by less than 500 votes.

Following the transfer of votes from the four excluded candidates; Denis Riordan (NP), Des Hayes (NP), Nora Bennis (CD) and James Gaffney (Green), Fine Gael’s Michael Noonan and Kieran O’Donnell are both short of the required quota with the Minister for Finance requiring an additional 1,132 to reach the magic 9,353.

Deputy O’Donnell is seeking an additional 2,523 votes to reach the quota while Maurice Quinlivan sits on a total of 6,651, just 485 votes ahead of Labour Minister for Education and Skills.

Social Democrat Sarah Jane Hennelly has been bowed out of the 2016 General Election having been eliminated on the third count.

Her 3,620 votes are now being transferred amongst the remaining candidates.

AAA candidate Cian Prendiville is now in the hunt for more than 3,800 votes to reach the quota and is likely to be eliminated at the next count.
