POWERING their way through 642km at an average speed of 27.5km an hour, ten Limerick firefighters have raised more than €13,000 for the ‘My Canine Companion’ charity.

Cycling from Mizen Head to Malin Head isn’t an easy task, but the firefighters from Mulgrave Street station, were more than willing to saddle up in support their colleague, Mike Mooney and his two sons Ronan (6) and Darragh (3) who have benefitted from the charity.

Over the course of the Bank Holiday weekend, the ten riders, over three days, cycled their way up the country with the sole aim of helping ‘Emmy’, a labradoodle pup who is in training to become a fully vetted canine companion for Ronan and Darragh, who are living with autism.

It costs €10,000 to train a puppy like Emmy and the Limerick firefighters completed their bank holiday fundraiser having surpassed their target, thanks to the generosity of supporters from Limerick and further afield.

The ten-strong group said that they were delighted with the turnout, the support and most all the amount of sponsorship raised.
