Opinion – Bar has been set

Screen shot 2016-05-11 at 12.35.16SINCE 1973, seven different counties have won at least one hurling All Ireland title. As each year passes the longing for glory grows even more intense in Limerick, this sport mad city. However, surely something fundamental is amiss. Our near neighbours Clare have now won three Liam McCarthy’s since 1995 and only last week they secured their first hurling league crown since 1978. Aside from their current hurling purple patch, the ‘Banner’ now have a football team in Division 2 of the league. Does Clare, as a county, have better hurlers and footballers than Limerick? Some might argue not. If they don’t then what are they doing better than us? Time to look over the garden fence.
