Cycling – Limerick riders race in An Post Rás

Screen shot 2016-05-24 at 12.33.33FIVE LIMERICK based cyclists are this week taking part in the 63rd edition of the An Post sponsored Rás.
All five riders are representing Mégo cycling club and will be looking to claim the coveted blue jersey, awarded to awarded to the best rider overall from an Irish county team.
Simon Ryan, racing in his 6th Rás, Bobby Coleman racing his second, Shane Kenny also in his second Rás are joined by first time Rás riders Sean Yelverton and Aaron O’ Brien.
The team is being supported by Alan Loftus, Peter Ryan (mechanic), Peter Bane (masseuse) Ronan Costello (soigneur) and Vinny Gleeson (coach).
The An Post Rás is an annual, eight-day, stage race around Ireland. The race is Ireland’s number one cycling event and will take place from May 22 – 29, 2016.
This is the sixth year of An Post’s sponsorship of the celebrated Rás Tailteann, which is more commonly known as The Rás. The epic race began in 1953 and has been held every year since. It is one of Ireland’s top sporting events bringing world class sporting action and a significant economic boost to towns and villages nationwide.
The Rás has a worldwide reputation of being a gruelling challenge in the elite, international calendar. The open racing style allows amateur county and club riders to pit themselves against domestic and international professionals.
Teams of five riders representing Continental Teams, Countries, Counties and Regions will contest the race.
