A 20th Anniversary Memorial Concert in honour of Detective Garda Jerry McCabe (1996-2016) will take place at University Concert Hall this Thursday May 26.

Hosting the concert is The Band of An Garda Siochána featuring special guests Unity Gospel Choir, Oliver Stapleton and Brendan Grace who is returning from the US for the occasion

Detective Garda Jerry McCabe died in the line of duty at Adare, County Limerick in June 1996. On hearing of the Memorial Concert for his longtime friend Jerry McCabe, Brendan Grace insisted that he would travel back from his home in Florida to pay tribute to “a great friend and a great Irishman”.

Inspector Pat Kenny, commenting on behalf of the Garda Band, informed Limerick Post Newspaper that it will be an honour to take part in the concert and took time to reflect on the tragic circumstances of Det. Garda Jerry McCabe’s passing.

“When invited by Chief Superintendent Sheahan to participate in this Concert, it prompted us to reflect upon the years that have passed  since that day on  June 10 1996 when Gerry was laid to rest.

“That reflection reinforced for us the belief that irrespective of the passage of time,  it is important if not vital  that we memorialise those who have died in the service of their State, not only for their families or indeed  their colleagues in An Garda Síochána, but also as a reminder to all of us of the ultimate sacrifices that are sometimes demanded,  in the service of our communities.

“We  look forward to making our contribution to this memorial concert and to seeing you at University Concert Hall, Limerick on May 26.”

From Brendan you can expect to hear some of the most requested pieces from his vast repertoire over the last 44 years.

All proceeds from the concert will be donated to Milford Care Centre, ADAPT Domestic Abuse Services, St. Gabriel’s School and Centre, Garda Benevolent Fund and the Laura Lynn Foundation.

Tickets are €20 each and available from www.uch.ie or direct from the concert hall.
