THREE attempted abductions or suspicious approaches to children in Limerick are currently under Garda investigation.

Earlier this month, a County Limerick couple were with their 10-year-old daughter in a shopping centre when a man approached the young girl and tried to lure her outside with money.

The girl’s father told the Limerick Post that “thankfully, my daughter was clever enough to say no. He then tried to offer her money to come outside”.

He said his daughter saw the suspect go to another young boy after she refused to leave with him.

“Security came and the gardai were called,” the girl’s father said.

The man was seen leaving in a car but it has emerged that the car was registered to another person not linked to the alleged crimes.

Roxboro Gardaí are also investigating other incidents after the girl’s mother said she was informed that “the same man had attempted the same thing twice in the previous month at the same location and at another location in the Midlands.

Special investigators are to speak with the young girl to get a full profile of the suspect.

The girl’s father said he wants the investigation to progress quicker, “because the man is still out there and could actually kidnap a kid the next time.”

“The public need to know of this issue, so that parents could be extra vigilant with their kids.”

Gardaí say they are investigating all reported contact, suspicious approaches and incidents “expeditiously” and are treating the matters very seriously.
