THE  destination of the 2015/16 Premier League trophy was decided last Thursday night as Carew Park emerged worthy victors.
The City side knew they had to overcome a tricky game away at Geraldines AFC, on the  Garryowen green. In front of what was a massive crowd, a tight game was decided by goals in either half for Carew Park by Tom Culhane and Mark McGarth. Albert Slattery’s outfit were crowned Premier League winners as L.D.M.C  chairman Christy O’Dwyer presented the trophy to a delighted team captain Mark Slattery.
The 2-0 win was needed on the night as Carew Park’s closest rivals, Pike Rovers, ended their season with a 4-1 win over Moyross. Colin Daly notched a hat-trick as John Connery also scored.
Rovers were back in action again on Sunday as the Lawson Cup Final took place up in Jackman Park. Mick Shields’ Pike Rovers squad were hoping to make it back to back Lawson Cups, however Ballynanty were keen to make it Lawson number 12.
In an exciting game, Ballynanty struck first through Liam Brock, before a 97th minute Pike equaliser from Gary Higgins tied up the final. Victory for Ballynanty was decided in extra time when ’Ballas’ David Dunphy dispatched a penalty to seal victory for this great Northside Club.
