Screen shot 2016-06-08 at 13.03.41THOMOND PARK has been confirmed as the venue for the International Champions Cup clash between Glasgow Celtic and Inter Milan.
The match, which takes place during the second weekend of the new Scottish season, will take place on Saturday, August 13, and will have a 7pm kick-off.
The glamorous International tournament will also see Celtic play English champions Leicester at home on July 23 and Barcelona in the Aviva Stadium on July 30.
The tie is expected to attract a massive crowd to the Limerick venue, with Celtic being one of the best supporter ‘foreign’ based clubs in Ireland.
With Scotland having not qualified for this years European Championships, Celtic could boast a squad including Craig Gordon, Scott Brown, Carlton Cole and Charlie Mulgrew.
However, the date and timing of the fixture has caused some anger locally. On the same evening, at 6.30pm, Limerick will face Cabinteely in the SSE Airtricity league.
Limerick FC will therefore be in direct competition with the Celtic/Inter Milan game for both media attention and more importantly, gate receipts. At the time of going to print no decision had been reached on a potential change.
