GAA – Limerick face tough task in Football Qualifiers

Screen shot 2016-06-23 at 10.19.36THE LIMERICK footballers enter the All Ireland qualifiers this Saturday as they face Antrim in Corrigan Park.
The tie, which throws in at 2pm, sees Limerick and Antrim clash for the second time in the championship, with Limerick having won their first encounter by 3-11 to 0-15 at the Gaelic Grounds in a Round 1 Qualifier clash in 2014.
Ger Collins (2-0), Ian Ryan (0-4) and Darragh Treacy (1-0) were Limerick’s top scorers while Paddy Cunningham (0-7) was Antrim’s main marksman.
This season however, Limerick were relegated from Division 3 while Antrim were promoted from Division 4, so a close tie is expected once more.
Limerick enter the qualifiers following a 0-16 to 0-13 point loss to Clare in the Munster quarter-final, while Antrim arrive in the back door, having lost 1-12 to 0-9 away to Fermanagh.
John Brudair’s men are seeking their first win of the year, having lost their ten outings so far.
Limerick were defeated in their two games in the McGrath Cup, lost six and drew one of seven Allianz League Division 3 games, before going down to Clare in the Munster quarter-final.
In team news, Cian Sheehan and Danny Neville, who both played the entire 70-minutes in the loss to Clare in the Munster semi final won’t be available to line-out against Antrim having headed to the United States for the summer.
Limerick will be hop that captain Iain Corbett can make the game this weekend as he missed the Clare game through injury, a knee sprain picked up in a club game.
Should Limerick progress, a second round clash wopuld take place on July 9.
