Screen shot 2016-07-21 at 13.04.40SHORT and sweet this week. Phil Mickelson and Henrik Stenson’s duel at Troon last weekend will go down in history as one of the greatest final pairings in golf.
Yes, the scores of 65 and 63 were mind blowing, but so too was the sportsmanship, respect and humility on show from both players.
Mickelson and Stenson gave their time to the crowd on every single hole. High-fiving the fans between green and tee boxes, while also giving away their used golf balls to kids.
The respect shown to each other throughout the last 36 holes was spectacular too. Stenson’s wife Emma even commiserated with Mickelson on the 18th, before congratulating her husband. Outside of the amazing golf on show, this was sport as it should be.
