A WOMAN has been rescued from the River Shannon in Limerick, just minutes after she was seen entering the water from the quayside.

The alarm was raised at around 9:50pm this Monday night when emergency services were alerted to a river incident in the city.

Three units from Limerick City fire and Rescue were dispatched to Harvey’s Quay where witnesses said they saw a woman enter the water.

Two Swiftwater Rescue Technician firefighters (SRTs) entered the water as “FireSwift” – the rapid response rescue boat – arrived alongside.

The woman, aged in her 30s, was brought onboard during the rescue operation which was attended by Limerick Marine Search and Rescue and the City Suicide Prevention Patrol.

Gardai and Emergency paramedics received the woman at the slipway adjacent to St Michael’s Boat Club and she was treated on scene for hypothermia before being brought by ambulance to the University Hospital Limerick.
