Engines stolen, shops raided and cannabis seized in Limerick

Gardai in Limerick are investigating a number of incidents including to the theft of outboard engines

GARDAI in Limerick are investigating a number of thefts, raids on shops and lock-up premises and the seizure of a large haul of cannabis last week.

the theft of two outboard motor engines stolen from boats on the Maigue River at Ferrybridge, Clarina between last Friday night and Saturday morning. One was a Mariner 15HP 2 stroke engine and the other a Yamaha 15HP 4 stroke engine. An Indespension trailer was also stolen on Thursday night from a house at Clonrane, Croom.

A gang of thieves is being sought by Gardaí in Limerick after a number of lock-up business premises were raided in the county last week. It is believed the gang, who wore balaclavas and travelled in a black Audi A5, were involved in all of the crimes. The first premises targeted was a shop in Clarina between 00.40 and 2am last Wednesday when the gang attempted to break in through the roof but were disturbed and fled the scene. At around 4am last Friday, a quantity of cigarettes was stolen from a shop on Station Road in Adare. Less than an hour later, the raiders targeted Monaleen Stores in Castletroy where they also stole a large quantity of cigarettes.

A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions after €150,000 worth of cannabis was seized at a house on the outskirts of Limerick City last weekend. Garda from Henry Street supported by the Divisional Drugs Unit located the drugs during the search of house on the Old Cratloe Road at 8pm last Friday night. A 32 year old man was arrested and detained at Henry Street Garda Station for three days under the Drugs Trafficking Act. Superintendent Derek Smart confirmed that the man was released without charge and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
