GARDA-Back-JacketTWO men were robbed at knifepoint last weekend. The robbery occurred on Saturday night last shortly after 10 pm when the two 38-year-old victims were threatened at knifepoint on Old Clare Street by two men who stole a black iPhone 6, a Mac laptop and wallet. THE theft of quad bikes and similar type farm machinery is back on the Garda radar this week after a number of items were taken in farmhouse raids. Gardaí in Newcastle West are investigating the the theft of a red Yamaha quad bike from a farm in Kilcolman, Ardagh. The theft happened between 6.30am and 7am last Sunday morning. A green Suzuki quad bike was stolen from a farm at Appletown, Feohanagh near Dromcollogher, the previous Tuesday morning. Gardaí fear that the thefts could be a resurgence of a spate of robberies of earlier this year which led to them carry out sting operations in the region.

Meantime, investigations are ongoing after gardai seized almost €200,000 worth of drugs in a joint operation with Customs officials in County Limerick last Friday afternoon. Around 6kgs of cannabis herb and 1.2kgs of cocaine were found during the search of a property at Kylefea, Croom. A 37-year-old man, arrested at the scene, was detained under the Drug trafficking Act at Henry Street Garda Station and a file has been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
